Mallika Returns, Drama Returns….Will TRP Also Return…?

Mallika Tattered Kuch Toh Log Kahenge

When Mallika married Jagan, I felt her role in the serial is over and she’d never come back and the serial would go off air after Nidhi and Ashutosh tie the knot. But when it was announced that the serial will continue, but will be shifted to the 11 PM slot, I was just wondering, what will the  writers do to keep the audience engaged even at an odd time slot. After the Nidhi-Ashutosh marriage sequence, which garnered a 1+ TRP, the show’s ratting points had started dropping again. The TRP of the show for the week ending on May 26 was just 0.76. So in order to perhaps reengage the audience and revive the drama in the story, the writers decided to play the Mallika triumph card. Mallika not only returned, but returned in a shocking avatar.

Dr Ashutosh encountered Mallika in a tattered condition when he was going to a hotel to get an ice-cream for Nidhi. She was very afraid and mentally unstable. So when Ashutosh asked her to come with him, she just ran away. And in an attempt to catch her, Ashutosh also suffered a mild accident and hurt his knee. This knee accident track was actually introduced just because Sharad Kelkar (who plays Ashutosh) recently underwent a knee surgery and therefore needed some rest. Coming back to the story, Ashutosh then asked Nidhi to find Mallika from anywhere. Despite her friend Anji’s advice that she should forget Dr Mallika, Nidhi not only helped Dr Mallika, but also admitted her to the Kotinis General Hospital. If the buzz in the entertainment media is to be believed, in the coming episodes it will be revealed that Mallika’s husband Jagan had physically tortured her, and there are also rumours that Mallika will suffer a memory loss.

Now that the show has almost the same characters that it had when it started (No Armaan, No Rohan), it’ll be very interesting to see what impact can Mallika’s re-entry make on the show’s TRPs.

On a related note, Sony has now gone HD; so you can now enjoy the romantic AshNi moments crystal clear in High Definition.

Dr Nidhi’s Post-Marriage Attire…

Dr Nidhi Dress Before and After Marriage

Dr Nidhi’s elegant Kurtas have been a rage among young Indian girls. The Kurtas, besides being simple are also quite fashionable. Kritika Kamra (who plays Nidhi) has told in many interviews that she gets lots of complements about the dresses she wears in the serial. But now our Dr Nidhi is married, so she has also changed her attire. Now she looks like a typical ornament laden Indian Bahu. Did you notice the change in her dressing sense ?

Ashutosh Weds Nidhi….!

Ashutosh Weds Nidhi

After a lot of fuss and emotional drama, we finally witnessed the moment that we have been waiting for since the 3rd of October, when the show started. Dr Ashutosh and Nidhi are no longer just a Doctor and an intern or two disheartened lovers, they now share a very special relationship and are bound together in the divine institution that the world calls Marriage.

The special thing about the AshNi Marriage Ceremony was that it, in a way, revived the Indian traditions and rituals. While in most on-screen marriages, there is Disco Dance, DJ, Rock Band, etc., etc., but this marriage was performed as per Indian rituals and even for music, folk singer Malini Awasthi was chosen, who made a special appearance in Nidhi’s Haldi ceremony.   For me the best moment in the entire marriage proceedings was when Dr Ashutosh and Nidhi shook their legs on the “Piya O Re Piya” song. It was really a pleasure watch the couple dance.

Besides the AshNi marriage there is one more thing that every KTLK fan must know. From May 28, there will be no KTLK at 8 PM. No, the show is not going off air. The show will continue at 11 PM and only Mon-Thu (no episode on Friday). This is being done to perhaps make room for the new show “Byaah Hamari Bahu Kaa. This is not the first time that Sony has taken such a decision. In February also, there was a news that “Kuch Toh Log Kahenge” would be shifted to 11 PM slot as “Shubh Vivah” was expected to take the 8 PM slot. Sony even aired promos that “Kuch Toh Log Kahenge” is going to be shifted to 11 PM. But very soon the promos were taken off as the channel decided to continue the show at 8. But it is very  unlikely that Sony will take a U-Turn this time again. In a statement given to the Times Of India, show’s producer Rajan Shahi confirmed the news and also added that the move might prove beneficial for the show as the audience will now have an undivided time-slot to watch the show.

In a way, this news has come as a sigh of relief for KTLK lovers as it has put a break on the speculations that the new show “Byaah Hamari Bahu Kaamight completely replace KTLK. Though it is still replacing KTLK at the 8 PM slot, you can catch “Kuch Toh Log Kahenge” at 11. And even if you follow the “Early to bed, Early to rise….” philosophy, you can watch “Kuch Toh Log Kahenge” on Youtube or VideoChaska at the time of your will.

Let’s Admit, Kuch Toh Log Kahenge Is Not a Commercial TV Series…

Kuch Toh Log Kahenge (Profile)

Back in October 2011, when “Kuch Toh Log Kahenge was launched, Sony TV was very optimistic about it. Even most of the TV Pandits had predicted that the serial will be a huge success at the small screen. And the most important reason behind all these optimistic predictions was the fact that 24 years ago (in 1987), “Dhoop Kinare”, with a similar story-line had been such an immensely popular TV series that it had made its leads Rahat Kazmi and Marina Khan household names in Pakistan. But, before making all these predictions we overlooked the fact that “Dhoop Kinare” used to run in 1987, a time when TV, as a medium of entertainment was just evolving. But by the time “Kuch Toh Log Kahenge” was launched, TV audience had got used to to all those ultra-glamorous and unrealistic sequences, that have now become common in most of the TV serials. “Kuch Toh Log Kahenge” is not the show for the audience who wants a new twist every next episode. Seriously, if you compare KTLK’s story-line with those of other TV series, presently being aired, you will find that KTLK has the simplest and the most realistic story. When Dr Ashutosh met a car accident, everyone was expecting that he will lose his memory after he’ll recover from the accident. But Kamlesh Pandey (the writer) didn’t do that, perhaps just to keep the story simple and realistic. Had it been some other serial, like “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi or “Kasauti Zindagi Kay”, Ashutosh would have lost his memory from the time he had met Nidhi, and Mallika would have been successful to convince him to marry her (may be by blackmailing him for his Baba’s house).

That’s why I say, Kuch Toh Log Kahenge” is not the show for the common folks in the country, who can not watch a straight forward love-story. It is the show of those elites who are not interested in those unrealistic “memory-loss” and “marriage-divorce” sequences, but want to watch a serious and mature love-story.

Sony Abandons Kuch Toh Log Kahenge Repeat Telecast…

Update- Sony today(02.05.12) restored all the repeats (including KTLK) at their usual timings. (Though the channel's website still does not show KTLK's repeat telecast at 12 noon.)

Today when I tuned in to Sony TV at 12 noon to watch “Kuch Toh Log Kahenge, I was surprised to see C.I.D. running on the channel instead of KTLK. I immediately logged on to SET India’s official website to check if they have changed the schedule. But there, I was taken by even more surprise. Today(01.05.12) they will air their top performing crime thrillers “C.I.D.” and “Crime Petrol”, the whole day. This means today there will be no repeat telecasts of any show (except C.I.D. and “Crime Petrol”) on Sony. However all the shows will run at their usual timings after 07:30 PM (The Prime Time). Tomorrow(02.05.12), while the repeats of most of other shows will be restored at their usual timings, “Kuch Toh Log Kahenge” will be still missing. Here are screen-shots of SET India’s official website, showing the channel’s schedule for today and tomorrow-:
